The Prime Minister of the Republika Srpska, Savo Minić, said that preserving what was defended with the lives of the nation’s bravest is a lasting obligation, stressing that remembrance of past suffering also bears witness to the resilience of the Serbian people.
“Every time I hear that children named Milica, Jelena or Gavrilo have been born in Knin, the spirit of Christianity once again reminds me, through a vivid image, of the triumph of life,” Minić wrote on the social media platform X.
He added that the Cyrillic alphabet is once again being taught in a primary school in Knin, describing it as evidence that what many had sought to erase has endured.
“As long as we remember our suffering, we also bear witness to the resurrection of our people. Our duty in the Republika Srpska is to preserve what was defended with the blood and lives of our bravest,” Minić said.
The Republika Srpska is observing a Day of Mourning to mark the 31st anniversary of Operation Storm, during which, according to official figures cited by the authorities, more than 1,904 Serbs were killed and over 220,000 people were expelled from Banija, Lika, Kordun and northern Dalmatia.
