Acting Director of the Office for International Cooperation of Republika Srpska Ana Trišić Babić told RTRS that a new High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina will not be appointed before November and that developments in the coming months will determine the direction of future events.
“From the moment it became clear in June that a High Representative would not be appointed, which I did not expect to happen anyway, everything indicated that no appointment would be made for the foreseeable future. That became even more evident when two candidates emerged. Initially there was only one candidate, but once France nominated its own candidate, it was already clear that a new High Representative would not be appointed anytime soon,” Trišić Babić said.
She stated that nothing unusual is happening in Bosnia and Herzegovina despite the absence of a High Representative, emphasizing that institutions continue to function normally.
“There is parliamentary activity, there are governments at both the state and entity levels, and public affairs continue without any problems despite the absence of a High Representative. I would like to see this current situation, including the equally non-existent position of Acting High Representative, become a transitional phase in which everyone in Bosnia and Herzegovina, not only those of us in Republika Srpska, adjusts to the reality that a High Representative is no longer necessary. We in Republika Srpska moved on from the High Representative and the Office of the High Representative a long time ago. I hope Sarajevo will also adapt to the fact that this country no longer needs a High Representative,” Trišić Babić said.
