Serb member and Chairwoman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željka Cvijanović met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog during her visit to Israel, describing the talks as very friendly, open and constructive.
Following the meeting, Cvijanović said the discussions confirmed good relations, partnership and mutual understanding, as well as a shared commitment to further strengthening cooperation between Republika Srpska and Israel.
“We discussed our friendship, strong relations and our common readiness to develop them further in the future. Republika Srpska considers Israel a friendly country, and we are also connected by certain difficult historical experiences that provide a foundation for better mutual understanding,” Cvijanović said.
She emphasized that Republika Srpska and Israel share a number of similar political positions and approaches on the international stage, adding that these similarities represent an important basis for expanding and deepening future cooperation.
Particular attention during the talks was devoted to opportunities for strengthening economic ties. Cvijanović said that President Herzog expressed readiness to support more intensive economic cooperation, including business networking, investment and the development of tourism projects.
“There were positive initiatives in the past, especially in the field of tourism cooperation. However, global circumstances and armed conflicts in recent years have slowed some of those activities. Herzog said he would personally support stronger economic ties in the future, while stressing that maintaining political understanding is of fundamental importance,” she said.
Speaking about political issues, Cvijanović noted that she informed the Israeli president about the political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as matters related to the functioning of the country’s joint institutions.
According to her, Herzog is well acquainted with developments in the Western Balkans and demonstrated an understanding of the complex political situation in the region.
“He wished us peace, stability and a secure future, while encouraging us to remain committed to protecting our constitutional rights and competences,” Cvijanović said.
