A solo exhibition of artistic theatre photography by Brčko-based author Jovica Panić was opened this evening at the “Sava Šumanović” Gallery in Brčko. The exhibition features 40 works created over the past six years during theatre festivals and performances held in the city.
The exhibition was organized by the Serbian Educational and Cultural Society “Prosvjeta” of Brčko.
Author Jovica Panić explained that the displayed photographs are not documentary in nature, but instead focus on the visual expression, emotion and stage presence of actors.
Panić noted that selecting the final 40 photographs required taking nearly a thousand shots, emphasizing that theatre photography demands exceptional patience and the ability to capture the perfect moment under challenging lighting conditions.
He added that he worked discreetly, usually from a distance and with professional telephoto lenses, so that the sound of the camera would not disturb either the audience or the performers.
Dragan Prole, president of the Association for Artistic Photography of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who curated the exhibition, described theatre photography as one of the most demanding and respected photographic disciplines.
According to Prole, theatre photography requires years of dedication and a deep understanding of both photography and theatre in order to preserve dramatic moments that disappear as soon as a performance ends.
“This exhibition represents a creative and artistic story that confirms Panić has successfully met the high standards of this discipline and completed an important stage of his artistic development,” Prole said.
Jovica Panić is a long-time member of the University Photo-Cinema Club of Banja Luka, and this is his second solo photography exhibition.
