The curtain will fall tonight on the 28th Theatre Fest “Petar Kočić” with the performance of Martin Udio by the National Theatre of Republika Srpska, staged in honour of the festival award winners announced by the professional jury.
During the final competitive evening, audiences watched Safe House, performed by the ensemble of Gavella Drama Theatre from Zagreb and directed by Anica Tomić.
Tomić’s production tackles the issue of domestic violence through the story of an educated woman who becomes a victim of psychological and physical abuse. After years of suffering, she ultimately commits a tragic act by killing her abusive husband.
Official statistics show that violence has become an everyday reality. The play raises the question of whether society is truly prepared to confront the people behind those statistics and the personal stories hidden behind the initials that appear in daily news reports. The powerful production left a strong impression on the audience.
This year’s competitive programme featured theatre companies from Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, and Republika Srpska, offering a diverse selection of contemporary productions and interpretations.
