Cvijanović: After three decades, the United States now has a completely different approach toward Bosnia and Herzegovina

Željka Cvijanović said that after three decades the United States has adopted a completely different approach toward Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider Balkan region.

Speaking on RTRS, Cvijanović said she returned from her latest visit to the United States with positive impressions, stressing that dialogue with the new U.S. administration has already been established.

“We now have a completely different approach toward Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region. America no longer wants to be the world’s policeman or to build other states,” she said.

According to Cvijanović, recent messages coming from United States indicate support for democratic processes and less reliance on international interventionism.

She stated that the new American approach focuses on peace, stability and economic cooperation, adding that American companies are showing increased interest in investments in both the Federation of BiH and Republika Srpska.

Cvijanović argued that Bosnia and Herzegovina could not be considered fully sovereign while foreign officials retained powers to impose laws.

“If you have a foreigner who was not legally appointed and who can impose laws, then we cannot speak about sovereignty,” she said.

Rejecting claims about the “Americanization” of Republika Srpska, Cvijanović emphasized that Republika Srpska maintains balanced relations with multiple international partners, including Russia, countries of the European Union and Israel.

“We cooperate with everyone who wants to build relations with us on equal terms,” she concluded.
