SNSD leader Milorad Dodik stated that there was never a unified will in BiH to resist international intervention, adding that the same intervention is now undermining the very concept of Bosnia and Herzegovina itself.
“It has turned the country into an impossible state and left Bosniaks as political minors, without the ability to make independent decisions,” Dodik said.
According to him, the Bosniak political approach was based on the expectation that foreign actors would continuously fulfill their demands, but he warned that such a legacy would ultimately leave Bosnia as a deeply backward country.
“For us Serbs, the only option is to save ourselves from this sinking ship. It is completely irrelevant whether the OHR remains or not. We have shown that it is possible not only to resist such pressures, but also to secure development in a completely unequal struggle,” Dodik told Politika.
He stressed that even if international intervention ended today, it would still leave behind major disorder in BiH.
“If their goal was to destabilize BiH, then Christian Schmidt, with the help of international ignorance, did an excellent job. They enjoyed governing someone else’s country and creating problems, but now some are finally beginning to realize it. Russia and China understood it earlier, and now even America is noticing it, while Britain and Germany do not want to acknowledge it. Our fight against tutelage is essentially a fight for national freedom,” Dodik said.
Dodik emphasized that there is no clear international consensus on what should be done with BiH in the future.
“We are not waiting for that consensus because we have already shown that we can defend our position. Whoever is appointed in the future, if they are not verified by the UN Security Council and through the procedures foreseen by the Dayton Agreement, will be just as unacceptable to us as Schmidt,” he stated.
He added that Republika Srpska’s position remains that BiH does not need a High Representative at all.
“From the perspective of well-intentioned global powers, the correct approach would be to tell us: try to organize your relations yourselves, and if you are unable to do so, then separate peacefully. What is wrong with that? The only thing that can truly be defined as bad is conflict — and we reject that,” Dodik concluded.
