Members of Kendo Club Banja Luka will represent Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Balkan Championship, which will be held from April 24 to 26 in Belgrade.
Six kendoka will compete: senior women Katja Ljujić and Teodora Mladenović, junior competitor Teodora Gojić, and senior men Vladimir Bjelajac, Nedeljko Bojanić and Aleksandar Jokić.
Travelling with the team to Belgrade will also be coach Saša Purnjaga and Srđan Mastikosa.
“Our team is among the youngest national selections at the championship, which makes this appearance extremely important for gaining experience and further sporting development. Nevertheless, despite our youth, we expect quality matches and a good result,” Purnjaga said.
He added that during the meeting of participating countries, representatives would also discuss the possibility of Republika Srpska, or Bosnia and Herzegovina, hosting the 18th Balkan Championship in 2028, which would represent a major step forward for the development of the sport and organizational capacities.
“We believe we will worthily represent the sport of kendo for Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and return richer in experience and results,” he added.
