Cvijanović: Jasenovac is the deepest wound in the collective being of the Serb people

Željka Cvijanović said that Jasenovac concentration camp remains the deepest wound in the collective memory of the Serb people.

Speaking during the Day of Remembrance ceremony for victims of genocide against Serbs, Jews, and Roma in the Independent State of Croatia at Donja Gradina, Cvijanović said the pain has not faded even after 81 years.

“It is a wound that still hurts and warns us,” she wrote on social media.

She stressed that future generations have a permanent duty to preserve the truth about Jasenovac and remember the martyred Serbs, Jews, Roma, and all other innocent victims.

Cvijanović concluded by saying may their memory be eternal, and that the evil they faced must never be repeated against anyone.

At the commemoration, speakers also emphasized that the pain for innocent victims will endure for centuries and that historical truth must never be forgotten so atrocities such as the genocide in Jasenovac are never repeated.
