Award to Dodik sparks reactions in Sarajevo

Reactions from Bosniak associations opposing the planned recognition for Milorad Dodik by Judson University have intensified, with critics calling for the award not to be granted.

Branimir Kojić, president of the Organization of Families of Captured and Fallen Soldiers and Missing Civilians from Srebrenica, stated that such reactions reflect political tensions and disagreements over interpretations of past events.

He argued that recent developments challenge established narratives regarding the conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina, referencing the report of the Independent International Commission led by Gideon Greif.

Kojić also questioned why certain issues, including the case of Sakib Mahmuljin, were not equally highlighted by those criticizing the award.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, sent a protest letter to Judson University president Gene Crume, criticizing the decision to host Dodik at the World Leaders Forum 2026 and present him with an award for leadership and defense of democracy.

Dodik responded by accusing Konaković of overstepping his authority, stating that the move reflects internal political divisions within Bosnia and Herzegovina and does not represent a unified position.

Judson University’s World Leaders Forum has previously hosted prominent international figures, including former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, and former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
