Rebuilding strong relations with Serbs in the Balkans is in the national interest of the United States, said Rod Blagojevich, former governor of Illinois and a close associate of U.S. President Donald Trump.
Blagojevich recalled that the Serb people were loyal allies of Americans in both World Wars.
He was reacting to a post by SNSD President Milorad Dodik, who congratulated Trump and U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth on the historic mission to rescue two American pilots in the Iranian desert, one of whom was seriously wounded.
Dodik emphasized that the Serb people proudly remember Operation Halyard from World War II, when members of the Yugoslav Army in the Homeland, composed exclusively of Serbs, together with the U.S. Office of Strategic Services, organized the sheltering and evacuation of more than 500 Allied pilots, mostly Americans.
