An emotional poetry and music evening was held at the Cultural Center East Novo Sarajevo in East Novo Sarajevo, in memory of Mihajlo Vitor, a young poet and actor who tragically lost his life in a traffic accident one year ago.
The event, organized by the Secondary School “28. juni” in cooperation with Vitor’s family and the Cultural Center, brought together a full audience, strong emotions, and deep respect for a talented young man whose legacy lives on through his art.
Remembering talent and humanity
Mihajlo’s teacher Jadranka Regoje said the evening was organized both to mark World Poetry Day, March 21, and to honor the memory of an exceptional student.
“Mihajlo was a gifted reciter, poet, and actor—an extraordinary and versatile young person whose life was tragically cut short. Tonight, we feel both the joy of poetry and deep sadness because a wonderful young man, with a bright future ahead of him, is no longer with us,” she said.
She added that the event aims to preserve the memory of “a beautiful young life and a noble soul,” with plans to organize similar evenings in the future and to publish a collection of Mihajlo’s poems.
A radio show from a dream
Mihajlo’s friend Damjan Bošković explained that the evening was designed as a radio program, inspired by Mihajlo’s dream of creating a show similar to Duško Radović’s iconic “Belgrade, Good Morning.”
“We wanted to fulfill that dream in some way. The ‘program’ included announcements, jingles, instrumental music, a choir performance, and recitations. At the beginning, we played a recording of Mihajlo reciting his own poetry,” Bošković said.
Keeping his memory alive
Friend Matej Golijanin emphasized that Mihajlo lived poetry and that his friends and teachers are determined to keep his memory alive.
“He lived ahead of his time, and we are honored to have known him and witnessed his talent,” Golijanin said.
Katarina Simić added that all participants invested great effort to honor Mihajlo through what he loved most—poetry.
A memory that endures
Mihajlo’s legacy is also preserved through a mural in East Sarajevo bearing the message: “We never part if we wish to meet again…”
The evening, attended by family, friends, and citizens, will remain a powerful and dignified tribute to a young poet whose memory continues to live through his words.
