Following praise from Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Budapest, political analyst Stevica Deđanski said that the policy of Milorad Dodik—marked by its defense of Serb national interests—has clearly gained significant recognition.
“It is evident that Dodik’s policy, which has been bold precisely because it defended the interests of the Serb people, is now receiving special respect from those who also prioritize their own national interests,” Deđanski said, commenting on Orbán’s statement that Dodik deserves the title of the “greatest political survivor.”
He emphasized that it is important for the Serb people that Dodik enjoys the respect of Orbán, whom he described as a serious sovereignist leader focused on the interests of his citizens.
Deđanski added that Dodik also enjoys recognition from Donald Trump, arguing that Trump has acknowledged the significance and strength of Republika Srpska, which he said is reflected in the lifting of what he described as unjust sanctions against Dodik.
According to Deđanski, Dodik’s policy has also earned him support from Vladimir Putin, who has met with him several times, as well as from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“Dodik is pursuing a pro-Serb, pro-national policy that serves the interests of the Serb people. Is it easy? We all know it is not simple to pursue such a policy, but it is both important and courageous,” Deđanski said.
He added that Dodik maintained such a policy even when it lacked recognition, and that this recognition is now emerging.
“That is very positive for the Serb people. It is important for Dodik to receive support and respect for what he has done in the interest of the Serb people,” Deđanski noted.
Deđanski stressed that it is crucial for both Republika Srpska and Serbia to have leaders who understand global dynamics and can direct them in favor of their national interests.
He also highlighted the shared policy of Republika Srpska and Serbia in adhering to international law, noting that although major powers often disregard it, both continue to uphold it—earning them a certain level of respect.
Former Serb diplomat Branko Branković also told Srna that Dodik’s presence at the Budapest conference clearly attracted attention.
“It is evident that sovereignists seek cooperation with others, not instructions. It has been shown that the more you protect your national and state interests, the more respect you gain—many may oppose you, but they still respect you,” Branković concluded.
