Monograph “Invisible Heroes of Greece” Presented in Banja Luka

In Banja Luka, at the ceremonial hall of the Banski Dvor Cultural Centre, the monograph “Invisible Heroes of Greece” by Gordana Blagojević was presented.

The publication, the result of years of research, focuses on testimonies of children from Republika Srpska who stayed in Greece during the war years, as well as on the solidarity and humanity of Greek families who hosted them.

Through an anthropological perspective, the book brings stories of childhood in wartime conditions, but also narratives of hope, friendship, and human kindness.

Blagojević emphasized that the work provides not only an overview of humanitarian actions from the 1990s but also a broader historical insight into Serb–Greek relations, highlighting the long-standing depth of that connection.

Ethnologist and anthropologist Bogdan Dražeta noted that the monograph represents a significant contribution to the anthropology of childhood and can also be read as an “anthropology of hope,” as it reveals both the tragedy of war and the strength of human solidarity through children’s narratives.

Jelena Jovanović pointed out that the project “Invisible Heroes of Greece” was launched in 2020, aiming to collect and preserve personal stories of those who stayed in Greece during the war—stories now compiled in the book.

The promotion was organized in cooperation with the Ministry for European Integration and International Cooperation of Republika Srpska and its Representation in Greece.
