Draga Mastilović stated that the purpose of the Resolution adopted by the National Assembly of Republika Srpska is to prevent the recurrence of genocide.
- “The Resolution clearly defines that genocide was committed by the Independent State of Croatia. It was a planned genocide, supported by segments of that society,” Mastilović said, adding that the genocide in the NDH represents a central element of the Serb people’s culture of remembrance for the 20th century.
He noted that, alongside the Resolution, two additional conclusions were adopted obliging the Government of Republika Srpska to amend the Criminal Code and the Law on Cemeteries within 60 days. These changes will mandate the removal of Ustaša symbols from monuments and introduce penalties for promoting Ustaša ideology.
Mastilović emphasized that, in addition to the content of the document—described as historic—the unity of Serb representatives on this issue is particularly significant.
The Resolution condemns and deems unacceptable any ideological relativization or revival of the ideology of the Independent State of Croatia, as well as the denial or minimization of genocide against Serbs.
