Drina hydropower plants: multimillion investment announced

Over the past eight years, 12 major investments have been carried out at the Drina Hydropower Plants, said Nedeljko Perišić, Director of the Drina Hydropower Plant.

“These are primarily equipment replacements. The plant has been operating for 37 years, and it is evident that material fatigue and obsolescence of certain equipment occur over time. We have made an effort, in line with production and revenues, to replace vital equipment adequately and on time. All these investments have helped us prevent unwanted effects and increase production efficiency,” Perišić told ATV.

He noted that they can be proud of having made the right assessments, as the results are positive—not only for Višegrad, but for the whole of Republika Srpska.

Perišić also announced significant investments planned for the coming period.

“What we need to do next is replace the generator circuit breakers. This is a multimillion investment, and it will not be fully implemented within this year. Our goal is to launch the procurement this year, select a supplier, and bring them into the project. It will certainly take about two years to complete the entire process—from procurement to final implementation,” he said.

He added that, in parallel, work is underway on designing the revitalization and modernization of the facility itself.

“We are approaching the fourth decade of the hydropower plant’s operation, and according to technical parameters this is the moment when more substantial renewal of vital equipment should take place, in order to extend the plant’s service life—its operating period—by another 40 years,” Perišić said.
