Nikola Lubura from Judo Club “Famos” won a silver medal at the Cadet European Cup in Šamorín, Slovakia, describing the performance as very successful, as this and previous medals at European Cups currently place him sixth on the world ranking list.
Lubura won silver in the over 90 kg category.
“Thanks to that position, I had a bye in the first round, but the competition was extremely strong from the very start, and every match required maximum concentration and tactical discipline,” Lubura told SRNA.
He pointed to the importance of victories against Aleksandar Suči and Frank David Musime Evanea Eluti, stressing that these were demanding bouts against quality and powerful competitors, further confirming that he can compete on equal terms with the best.
According to him, the final bout against Czech judoka Melichar Škoda was extremely difficult and tactically demanding.
“My goal is always gold, but the silver medal realistically reflects my current level and form. The defeat is additional motivation to work even harder and prepare for upcoming competitions,” Lubura said.
He noted that the result is confirmation of his work and sacrifices, as well as team effort.
“Judo Club ‘Famos’, my coach Željko Šiljegović, my family and friends all made a huge contribution to this success. Without their expertise, support and quality training, such a result would not have been possible,” Lubura emphasized.
In the remainder of the season, he plans to compete at several European Cups, as well as at the European Championship in Spain, the World Championship in Ecuador and the Youth Olympic Games in Senegal, aiming to maintain consistency in good results and fight for gold medals.
Lubura sends a message to young athletes to believe in themselves and not forget why they started training, emphasizing that setbacks are part of sport and that success requires years of work, discipline and sacrifice.
