Đokić: Do not remain silent in the face of the glorification of evil

The president of the Socialist Party, Petar Đokić, said that Ustaša chants in Široki Brijeg at a recent concert by the controversial Croatian singer Marko Perković Thompson openly glorify the Ustaša and Nazi ideology responsible for the most monstrous crimes against Serbs, warning that silence in the face of the glorification of evil must not be allowed.

“In recent times we have been witnessing increasingly aggressive promotion of Ustaša ideology, which is being presented as part of culture and tradition. This is a dangerous deception. Unfortunately, the world remains silent in the face of this glorification of evil, which is just as alarming as the chants themselves,” Đokić warned.

Đokić pointed out that no society that wants to call itself civilized can tolerate the promotion of an ideology of genocide, the Socialist Party said in a statement.

“Any justification or ignoring of such phenomena means complicity in an attempt to rewrite history and relativize crimes. That is why I call on domestic and international institutions to finally show responsibility and clearly state that the glorification of Ustaša ideology has no place in the modern world,” Đokić said.

He emphasized that the organizers of such concerts should be sanctioned.

“Because if we remain silent today, we allow this evil to speak again tomorrow,” Đokić concluded.

At the concert on Friday, February 13, in Široki Brijeg, Thompson performed the song “Bojna Čavoglave” accompanied by the Ustaša salute “Za dom spremni!”, which the audience chanted along with him.

The performance in the “Pecara” hall was also marked by iconography and symbols of the notorious Independent State of Croatia, as well as allusions to the wars of the 1990s.
