Željka Cvijanović, the Serb member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, said last evening that Republika Srpska remembers the victims of the Holocaust.
She recalled that, on the occasion of the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust, the Palace of the Republic in Banja Luka displayed a number symbolizing six million Jewish victims.
“By remembering the victims of the Holocaust, we honor the memory of those who suffered and reaffirm our commitment that such crimes must never be repeated,” Cvijanović said.
The International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust was established on November 1, 2005, by a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly.
The day is marked especially in European countries where 53 million people lost their lives during World War II, including nearly 31 million civilians.
According to data from the Donja Gradina Memorial Site, 700,000 victims of Ustaša crimes were killed in the Jasenovac concentration camp during World War II, including 500,000 Serbs, 40,000 Roma, 33,000 Jews, and 127,000 anti-fascists. Among the victims were 20,000 children.
