Dodik: We will continue to mark January 9; Trump has rejected bans and policies of erasing history

SNSD leader Milorad Dodik said that the Serb people will continue to mark January 9—peacefully, proudly, and responsibly—as an expression of respect for democratic choice, historical memory, and the right of a people to preserve who they are.

“This year, as always, we will mark January 9—Republic Day of Republika Srpska—with dignity. Attempts to ban or delegitimize this date have nothing to do with law or coexistence, but rather with efforts to erase Serb history, identity, and the democratic will of the people,” Dodik wrote on the social media platform X.

He pointed out that, contrary to freedom of expression, attempts have been made to prohibit the commemoration.

“Contrary to the foundations of democracy, the voices of the people—who clearly expressed their support for January 9—were annulled. That is neither pluralism nor democratic practice,” Dodik stressed.

He added that changes are also evident globally, particularly in the United States, where the administration of President Donald Trump has clearly rejected policies that sought to erase history, ban commemorations, and negate national and regional identity in the name of false political correctness.

“Sharing these principles, we will continue to mark January 9,” Dodik said.
