SNSD President Milorad Dodik said today in Banja Luka that the decision to establish Republika Srpska represents a historic covenant, stressing that even after 34 years it remains alive, stable, and viable.
Dodik emphasized that Republika Srpska was founded in Pale and established by the National Assembly and its leaders—Radovan Karadžić, Momčilo Krajišnik, Biljana Plavšić, Nikola Koljević, and others—with the intention that it would never be something temporary or short-lived.
“These visionary decisions are part of the covenant of Serb national history, because the creation of Republika Srpska was the only possible and realistic solution for Bosnia and Herzegovina after the breakup of the former Yugoslavia, all with the aim of reaching an agreement for peaceful coexistence,” Dodik said.
He underlined that the decision was made in peacetime, with the belief that political decisions would prevail, at a moment when there was no talk of war, which began later.
Dodik assessed that Republika Srpska marks January 9 today in complex circumstances, noting that attempts to administratively restrict the Republic are impossible.
“It is impossible to restrict the awareness and the will of the people here to celebrate their holidays. Not even Adolf Hitler managed to do that, and no one ever will, because the freedom-loving spirit of a people has never been possible to destroy. We must remain united around Republic Day, because if it is taken away from us and if we submit to those foolish decisions, we will have destroyed part of our history and undermined our future,” Dodik stressed.
He added that it is therefore important for Republika Srpska today to pay tribute to fighters who fell for the freedom of the Serb people, and to continue building Republika Srpska in line with the will of its people and leadership—in peace, security, and stability.
“Today, despite all the challenges that aimed at its disappearance, Republika Srpska is alive, stable, and prosperous, and continues to live a successful life,” Dodik concluded.
