Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Minister of Defense Zukan Helez has caused a new scandal.
Helez refused to grant approval for a Hungarian military aircraft to land at Banja Luka Airport—an aircraft that was supposed to bring Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó.
Even more controversial than the decision itself is Helez’s explanation, in which he openly admits that he blocked the landing because Szijjártó and the Hungarian prime minister have maintained good relations with Milorad Dodik for years.
“For years now, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Minister Szijjártó have openly supported the former president of the administrative part of BiH, RS,” Helez stated.
“Also, the Hungarian side did not provide any clear explanation as to why the foreign minister is arriving specifically by military aircraft,” Helez wrote on social media.
As a reminder, SNSD leader Milorad Dodik previously announced that the Hungarian foreign minister was expected to arrive in Republika Srpska on Thursday.
Szijjártó is scheduled to receive an honorary doctorate at the University of Banja Luka, Dodik explained.
