At the commemoration of the 81st anniversary of the “Halyard” mission, President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik emphasized that the Serbian people have always been a freedom-loving nation.
Commenting on the mission, Dodik announced that Republika Srpska will begin building a memorial center in Boljanić.
- “This is an important day, not one in which we want to impress anyone, but to pay tribute to the Chetnik anti-fascist movement. We were not taught about nobility, but we believe it is time to correct the injustices that occurred in the 1990s. We see U.S. President Donald Trump returning America to the path of civilization and peace. Free us from this straitjacket called BiH. We want to live and have a state like every other in Europe,” Dodik said.
He reminded that the Serbs had two anti-fascist movements – Chetniks and Partisans – while the Ustaše were fascist and Nazi collaborators, and the Handžar Division was directed at harming the Serbian people.
“None of them are here today. Those who were on the side of fascism received support from the West in the 1990s, and that is why there is misunderstanding today,” Dodik stressed.
According to him, the Serbian people never had a conquering army, only a defensive one, and the Chetnik movement did not fight throughout Yugoslavia but defended their homes.
He reiterated that Serbs in Republika Srpska do not want to live with Muslims.
“We never wanted to. Free us from Christian Schmidt. This people wants to live freely and choose its own presidents. The Serbian people are a freedom-loving people,” Dodik said.
He thanked those present, noting that this is a joint event and shared history.
“American politics should respect the facts. That is why I expect that through dialogue we will achieve everything,” Dodik concluded.
At the beginning of his address, the President of Srpska asked for a moment of silence to honor the murdered Charlie Kirk, who, as he noted, loved the Serbian people.
