Collection of poems “A Grain of Flint” by Milenko Jevđević promoted in Doboj

The collection of poems “A Grain of Flint” by Milenko Jevđević from Banjaluka was promoted in Doboj. The book contains patriotic, homeland-inspired, and love poems, gathered over the past 15 years of the author’s work.

The grain symbolizes the renewal of life, while flint represents spark and firmness. The author says the union of these two terms is the key to existence and survival in these lands.

“Goodness must grow, and the flint is within us, the people. I tried to make each poem in this collection stand as one grain of flint,” the author explained.

Jevđević, who transitioned from a military officer to a writer, said that path allowed him to view both wartime and peacetime experiences on a deeper level.

His poetry is based on traditional Serb expression, and the book consists of five interrelated cycles.

“A lyricist with an epic charge who writes in the meters and forms suited to Serb tradition. In most poems, however, one line prevails—and that is love. Love for a woman, as the source of life on earth and the meaning of our existence,” emphasized reviewer Zoran Kostić.

Jevđević has published four poetry collections and one short story collection. He is also a recipient of the Order of the Karađorđe Star of Republika Srpska.

“He is a very intriguing poet who combines lyrical, love, and patriotic cycles. A versatile poet with excellent reviews of his work,” said Lidija Žarić, director of the Doboj Public Library.

September at the Doboj Public Library will be dedicated to literary evenings, with joint activities also planned in cooperation with the Italian Organization for Culture and Librarianship.
