President of the Socialist Party of Srpska (SPS), Goran Selak, emphasized that Podrinje and Birač are Serb regions marked by immense suffering, but also enduring symbols of strength, defiance, and the centuries-long aspiration of the Serb people to survive on their ancestral land—despite efforts to erase them from this side of the Drina River.
“The attempt to completely destroy the Serb people in this part of Republika Srpska and sever them from the motherland of Serbia is one of the darkest criminal endeavors in modern history,” Selak stated.
He stressed that remembering the Serb victims and preserving the truth about their suffering is a fundamental moral and national duty of every Serb.
“Defending the truth about the nature of the war, preserving the legacy of the defensive-patriotic struggle, and ensuring the institutional protection of the rights of the Serb people remain core values we continue to fight for,” Selak said.
The commemoration marking 33 years since the crimes committed against the Serb people of Middle Podrinje and Birač was attended by the highest representatives of the authorities of Republika Srpska and Serbia. A memorial service for the Serb victims was led by His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Porfirije.
