During the first five months of this year, Republika Srpska welcomed 186,698 tourists, who recorded a total of 466,487 overnight stays—an increase of 3.7% in arrivals and 1.2% in overnight stays compared to the same period last year, according to the Tourist Organization of Srpska.
“If we compare the number of overnight stays during the first five months of this year with the same period last year, mountain destinations remained at the same level,” said Sanela Šimun, public relations officer at the Tourist Organization, in a statement to SRNA.
She added that spa resorts recorded a 3.5% increase, while other tourist destinations saw a 0.9% rise.
“These include locations with various attractions—climatic, cultural-historical, river, and lake-based destinations,” Šimun noted.
She said that tourists stayed an average of 2.5 days during the five-month period.
As in previous years, besides domestic tourists, the majority of visitors came from the surrounding region—Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, and Montenegro. Other notable countries of origin include Turkey, Germany, Austria, China, and Italy.
According to Šimun, domestic tourists recorded the highest number of overnight stays in other tourist destinations, followed by spa resorts, mountain areas, and places that do not fall into any specific category but offer accommodation services.
“Foreign tourists recorded the highest number of overnight stays in spa resorts, followed by other tourist destinations, and then mountain areas,” Šimun concluded.
