Tadić: Schmidt has made a series of mistakes

From the moment Christian Schmidt set foot in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a legal chaos ensued, in which Republika Srpska has been trying to preserve the legal order from usurpation, stated lawyer Ognjen Tadić, advisor to the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik.

Speaking on RTRS’s Morning Program, Tadić emphasized that the public in Republika Srpska should not be confused, as this is not a trial against Dodik personally, but against Republika Srpska.

“President Dodik was the first to understand that fact, and he distanced himself accordingly, approaching the situation as a serious political issue. And now it’s being resolved the way it is,” said Tadić.

According to him, Christian Schmidt saw resistance coming from Republika Srpska and Dodik as the leader of that resistance.

“Schmidt attempted a push toward Srpska, thinking it would go smoothly with the support of embassies. However, Republika Srpska quickly positioned itself by adopting its own laws, which led Schmidt to react by imposing amendments to the BiH Criminal Code—where he made a series of mistakes, including making laws effective before they were officially enacted,” Tadić explained.

He stressed that the Appellate Panel of the unconstitutional Court of BiH now faces a make-up exam.

“If the unconstitutional Court of BiH fails this test again, there are two further paths ahead. The first is legal—where many arguments about legal violations should be addressed by the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. The second is political, as announced by President Dodik. This process cannot pass without consequences, and this is a moment when Republika Srpska could achieve a significant outcome,” Tadić concluded.
