Cvijanović – Landau: The USA will no longer engage in nation-building or interfere in the internal affairs of other countries

Serb member and Chairwoman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željka Cvijanović, met yesterday in Dayton with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, to whom she extended congratulations on his recent appointment.

Cvijanović welcomed the announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump—reaffirmed during the meeting by Deputy Secretary Landau—that the United States will no longer engage in nation-building or interfere in the internal affairs of other countries.

She expressed full agreement with her interlocutor on the view that responsibility for all processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina must be assumed by domestic institutions, and that solutions must arise from domestic political consensus.

Cvijanović emphasized the need to intensify internal dialogue with the goal of overcoming challenges that are exclusively political in nature, rather than security-related.

She also expressed satisfaction with the United States’ focus on developing economic relations, noting that political stability is a prerequisite for such progress.

During the meeting, Cvijanović briefed Landau on the harmful consequences of years of unprincipled and undemocratic foreign interventionism.

She underscored her firm commitment to the reaffirmation of democracy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as to respecting the Dayton Peace Agreement.
