The renewed initiative for the distribution of tourism vouchers in Republika Srpska is expected to contribute to the promotion of domestic destinations and stimulate increased tourism turnover, according to the Tourism Organization of Srpska.
“Unlike during the pandemic, people are now more interested in traveling abroad. However, we hope that the reintroduction of tourism vouchers will once again encourage citizens to explore and enjoy destinations within Republika Srpska,” said Sanela Šimun, public relations associate at the Tourism Organization.
She emphasized that local tourists have come to appreciate the rich offerings of Republika Srpska, from natural landscapes to cultural attractions, highlighting that vacations can be both meaningful and affordable at home.
“Many events enrich the experience of visitors, both domestic and international. Considering our destinations are still more price-accessible compared to others, Republika Srpska remains an attractive choice,” Šimun added.
She also noted that global instability may influence some citizens to choose domestic holidays and make use of the vouchers, although it’s still too early to predict such behavior.
“With the support of tourism vouchers, families can save money and use those savings on additional services at their destination, which also contributes to local economic activity,” she explained.
Šimun invited domestic tourists to take full advantage of the voucher program once it is launched, urging:
“We encourage all citizens planning a vacation to spend at least part of their holidays in their own country. Enjoy our destinations and support the domestic tourism industry.”
The key advocates behind the voucher initiative are President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik and Serb member of the BiH Presidency Željka Cvijanović.
According to Minister of Trade and Tourism Denis Šulić, this year will see the distribution of around 20,000 vouchers for domestic tourists and an additional 10,000 allocated to agencies that bring foreign guests.
“We will implement the program in two phases,” Šulić said.
- The first phase will run from the end of May to the end of June,
- The second phase from September 10 or 15 to November 15.
“This is a way to support the tourism sector, which continues to show positive trends and increasing numbers of visitors each year,” he added.
