“Today in my office, I had the pleasure of welcoming Andrew Higgins, a journalist from The New York Times, with whom I discussed current political and economic topics,” said Staša Košarac, Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations in the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He noted that the interview was a valuable opportunity to present President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik’s initiative to the American public—namely, the proposal to abolish all customs duties on imports of goods originating from the United States.
“This is a solid foundation that would allow us to begin negotiations with the U.S. administration on a potential free trade agreement—another initiative launched by President Dodik,” Košarac stated.
Building on this initiative, Košarac said he formally proposed to the Council of Ministers the adoption of a decision on the temporary suspension of customs rates for goods imported from the United States.
“In the interview, we also touched on current global issues and the political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Since The New York Times recently reported on how President Dodik celebrated Trump’s victory in Banja Luka, I took the opportunity to give Mr. Higgins a symbolic gift—a photo of President Dodik wearing the recognizable ‘MAGA’ cap, taken during the celebration in front of the Presidential Palace,” Košarac concluded.
