Dodik: Republika Srpska will establish border police in accordance with the Dayton Agreement

A meeting of Republika Srpska’s top leadership was held at the Palace of the Republic in Banja Luka, where it was concluded that Republika Srpska will establish its own border police in accordance with the Dayton Peace Agreement and its Annex 2, announced Milorad Dodik, the President of Republika Srpska.

  • “A Working Group has been formed and held its first meeting today to draft legislation that will regulate the operation of border police within Republika Srpska. The legal framework being developed will be strictly in line with the Dayton Agreement and its Annex 2,” Dodik stated in a post on the social network X.

He emphasized that from 1996 to 2000, Republika Srpska’s Police was responsible for border control, and that on January 13, 2000, in violation of the Dayton Agreement and the BiH Constitution, High Representative Wolfgang Petritsch unilaterally imposed the so-called ‘State’ Border Service of BiH.

  • “In this regard, a closed session of the Government of Republika Srpska will be held in the afternoon to discuss additional political and security issues in Republika Srpska and BiH,” Dodik added.

The session will be attended by Milorad Dodik, President of Republika Srpska, and Željka Cvijanović, Serb member and Chairwoman of the BiH Presidency.
