Deputy Minister of Defense in the Council of Ministers, Aleksandar Goganović, stated today that the commander of EUFOR in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Florin Marian Barbu, assured him that this peacekeeping mission will remain impartial and will not exceed the mandate given to it by the UN Security Council.
Goganović said that during their meeting, Barbu emphasized that EUFOR’s mandate is clear—to ensure a stable and secure environment for all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The deputy minister further noted that Barbu stated that EUFOR’s role is not to interfere in political processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina, comment on media speculations, or take over the role and responsibilities of any institution in the country. Instead, EUFOR remains committed to cooperating with all levels of government within the framework of its mandate.
Goganović thanked the commander for an open discussion and for reaffirming that EUFOR will not exceed its mandate. He also expressed support for the peacekeeping mission in accordance with the UN Security Council’s mandate.
“We will continue our successful cooperation,” Goganović stated.
