The former Babino Brdo motel near Derventa has made a significant leap in its business development and now proudly holds the status of a four-star hotel.
This achievement is the result of years of dedication and investment in service quality, infrastructure, and the overall guest experience.
Naturally, obtaining this rating required meeting strict conditions set by the Ministry of Trade and Tourism. A commission thoroughly evaluated every aspect of the hotel’s offerings, further confirming the seriousness of the process.
- Moving to a higher category was a logical step after all the improvements we introduced. This status not only validates our efforts but also shows that we are on the right path of development, said Zlatko Okolić, the hotel’s manager, as reported by Derventa Cafe.
Expanded offerings and additional amenities
Hotel Babino Brdo now boasts significantly upgraded accommodation facilities, with a total of 24 beds, including two spacious family suites, rooms with double beds, and four modernly equipped bungalows. All accommodations feature high-speed internet, TV, a mini-bar, free parking, and high-quality hotel amenities.
Guests also have access to numerous additional conveniences, including room service, in-room mini-bars, bicycle rentals, table tennis and other games, printing and scanning services, a lobby laptop for business guests, and covered parking spaces.
- We currently have a children’s playground in a natural setting, within a pine forest, and we plan to expand it into a small adventure park with several domestic animals, Okolić stated.
Future plans
- We don’t plan to stop here. We have already begun constructing two luxury suites with jacuzzis, blending a modern interior with the traditional exterior of an old-style house—kijera. Additionally, we plan to renovate all rooms, expand certain accommodations, and enhance the hotel’s entrance, Okolić added.
Further plans will focus on developing the hotel’s restaurant, which will continue to offer top-tier culinary specialties. During winter, guests can enjoy the warmth of the fireplace alongside local delicacies, while the summer terrace, nestled in a pine forest, provides the perfect retreat from the city noise.
Additionally, the hotel offers facilities for hosting various events, seminars, and business meetings, with a banquet hall and conference spaces available.

Hotel Babino Brdo plays a vital role in the local economy through employment, tax contributions, and collaboration with numerous businesses. A significant number of visitors, especially from Croatia and the broader region, generate additional revenue for the city of Derventa through tourism and accommodation taxes.
- We will continue working in cooperation with the Derventa Tourism Organization and the City Administration to jointly contribute to the development of our city, Okolić emphasized.
- From the very beginning, our goal has been to ensure that all investments in the hotel remain within our city, thereby contributing to its progress—and we intend to keep it that way. The hotel employs a large number of people, pays taxes regularly, and fosters strong economic ties with numerous businesses. Additionally, many visitors come to Derventa specifically because of Babino Brdo, particularly from Croatia and the wider region, directly benefiting the local economy through accommodation taxes, increased spending, and economic growth, the hotel manager added.
A rich history
The Babino Brdo complex has been providing tourism and hospitality services since 1968. Built in an ethno-style, the motel was a well-known venue for business meetings and social events for decades. Up until the 1990s, many significant business agreements were signed here, including those formalized by the Zvečevo company at this very location.
After a brief hiatus, the facility was reopened in 2016 and has since experienced continuous growth and development. Today, Hotel Babino Brdo successfully combines tradition with modern luxury, offering guests an unforgettable retreat in nature. From its elevated position on the slopes of Mount Motajica, the hotel provides a spectacular view of Derventa and the surrounding area, complemented by warm hospitality and top-quality service.
