Preparations begin for “Arabian Night” at the National Theater of Republika Srpska

The National Theater of Republika Srpska is gearing up for the fourth premiere of its 95th theater season. The production, titled “Arabian Night”, is directed by Milan Bogdanović and based on the play by Roland Schimmelpfennig, one of Germany’s most widely performed playwrights.

The first reading rehearsal has taken place, and the premiere is scheduled for mid-March 2025 on the “Petar Kočić” stage. The creative team, led by Bogdanović, includes dramaturg Aleksandar Vasiljević, set designer Dunja Kostić, costume designer Ivana Ristić, and composer Luka Lukić. Marko Ristić, a second-year directing student at AUBL, serves as the assistant director, while Natasha Kecman is in charge of language editing. The production is managed by Nikola Đaković.

The cast features Željko Erkić, Natasha Perić, Senad Milanović, Bojan Kolopić, and Isidora Davidović, a fourth-year acting student at the Academy of Arts in Banja Luka.

“Arabian Night” explores the lives of immigrants in a major German city—individuals living on daily wages, isolated and lonely, disheartened, voyeurs, and dreamers.

About the Director: Milan Bogdanović, a native of Banja Luka, is presenting “Arabian Night” as his graduate production. He is completing his studies in theater and radio directing at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade under the mentorship of Alisa Stojanović. Bogdanović has directed numerous productions in youth and student theaters in Republika Srpska and Serbia. He received the Best Directing Award at the “Fedra” festival in Bugojno for his work on “Little Agaton.”

About the Playwright: Roland Schimmelpfennig, a German theater director and dramatist, is among the most prolific German playwrights. His works have been performed in over 40 countries and are especially celebrated in Spain.
