The Government of Republika Srpska will acquire Komsar Energy, and the Ugljevik East Two coal deposit will come under the ownership of Republika Srpska within the next 15 days, confirmed Ugljevik Mayor Dragan Gajić in an exclusive statement for RTRS.
Gajić estimates that the East Two deposit holds 48 million tons of coal, with an annual production requirement of 2 million tons to maintain operations.
“Just an hour ago, I received a call from the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, informing me that during tonight’s discussions with representatives of Komsar Energy, the Government of Republika Srpska decided to acquire the company. By purchasing this company, we are addressing a pressing issue that has been troubling us recently,” Gajić stated.
Details of the acquisition
He noted that the agreement foresees the purchase of Komsar Energy within the next seven to 15 days.
“All obligations and rights of the company will belong to Republika Srpska or its Government, and most importantly, the concession field East Two will come under the Government’s ownership. This will ensure that the East Two deposit is under Srpska’s control, allowing RiTE to operate without interruption and continue the production of electricity,” Gajić emphasized.
Resolution to critical issues
The Ugljevik Thermal Power Plant faced operational halts due to a lack of coal, leaving the municipality of Ugljevik without heating and prompting protests by workers.
With this decision, the Government aims to resolve the ongoing challenges in the municipality, which have reached a critical point in recent months.
