The mayor of Banja Luka, Draško Stanivuković, has announced the construction of a cable car to Banj Brdo, a project with the potential to enhance the tourist offer of the largest city in Republika Srpska.
Details of the construction timeline and completion date for Banja Luka’s first cable car are yet to be disclosed.
The concept for the cable car was initially presented in October 2019 as a project by students from the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Geodesy (AGGF), led by Professor Miroslav Malinović. Malinović noted that the idea was inspired by a project proposal from 15 years ago.
“The cable car project was not accepted at that time. We took it as an idea that students developed into a comprehensive study,” said Malinović.
He added that, before drafting the plan, they surveyed residents of Srpske Toplice as well as recreational visitors to Banj Brdo. “In the end, we created a concept with two stations: one starting near the spa in Srpske Toplice and another at the plateau near the monument on Banj Brdo,” Malinović explained.
He emphasized that these two locations are less than 500 meters apart in a straight line, making construction on this site more cost-effective.
However, the city administration has not disclosed whether the cable car construction will follow the conceptual design prepared by AGGF students five years ago.
