Everything is ready for the premiere of the play “Švabica”

The premiere of the play “Švabica,” based on motifs from the story by Laza Lazarević, directed and adapted by Dušan Petrović, will be performed tomorrow at the National Theatre of Republika Srpska to mark October 18, the Theatre Day.

Dijana Grbić, Director of the National Theatre of Republika Srpska, told Srna that this premiere will appropriately mark the start of the new theatre season, as it brings together a large number of young actors.

  • Our goal is to give young people the opportunity to showcase their potential and talent, so this play features third- and fourth-year acting students as well as younger members of our ensemble. It’s a melodrama, a genre we haven’t seen on stage for quite some time – Grbić said.

She noted that before the play, awards will be presented to distinguished ensemble members for their achievements in the previous season, including the award for best performance, as well as recognitions for individuals and institutions that supported them.

In addition to “Švabica,” three more premieres are planned by the end of the year, two of which are dramas and one an opera.

  • We will end the year with a spectacular musical event, the opera “La Bohème” by Giacomo Puccini, which we will produce in co-production with the National Theatre in Belgrade – Grbić announced.

She reminded that, thanks to the support of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Srpska and socially responsible companies, the theatre has entered the new season with significantly improved working conditions.

  • What is most important to us is that we have new stage boards, which have been replaced after more than 50 years, and we’ve also upgraded the lighting system, so now we have much better technical and environmental conditions – Grbić added.
