The engagement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Council of Ministers regarding the issue of constructing a radioactive waste disposal site at Trgovska Gora is inadequate and insufficient, stated Staša Košarac, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers.
Košarac emphasized that the priority of all institutions must be to protect the right to life and health of the 250,000 citizens living in the Una River basin. He noted that the radioactive waste disposal site at Trgovska Gora is not just a problem for Novi Grad but also for other municipalities and all institutions, as both citizens of Republika Srpska and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina are equally at risk.
“The inadequate handling by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the diplomatic-consular network represents an irresponsible approach to the issue of preserving the lives and health of the population in the endangered area. What do the citizens of Bihać or any other municipality in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina think about such passive behavior?” Košarac asked.
He recalled that the Coordination Body for Trgovska Gora was expanded to include a member from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to speed up procedures and activities.
“We are not satisfied with the engagement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Elmedin Konaković, and the diplomatic-consular network. We expect a much more agile approach and contribution to permanently prevent the construction of the controversial disposal site,” Košarac wrote on Instagram.
According to Košarac, the institutions of Republika Srpska have been continuously dedicated to resolving the issue of the controversial disposal site at Trgovska Gora. This was demonstrated in yesterday’s discussion in the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, where the Information on the activities of the institutions of Srpska and its representatives in joint institutions regarding Croatia’s intentions to build a disposal site at Trgovska Gora was adopted.
Košarac also highlighted that Croatia refuses to cooperate and provide information about the activities it is conducting on its territory related to the construction of this disposal site, emphasizing that the statements by Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković that activities will be halted until 2028 are not accurate.
“This significantly complicates and undermines the bilateral relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, something we have been continuously warning about. We are aware of Croatia’s intentions, but we will not give up,” Košarac asserted.
Košarac mentioned that an agreement was reached to engage an international law firm, which will provide legal advisory services and contribute to the legal fight against the disposal of radioactive and nuclear waste at Trgovska Gora.
