The first trail race was held in the protected area of the Trebević Nature Park in East Sarajevo with the aim of promoting natural resources and a healthy lifestyle, in addition to sports competition and socializing.
Acting Director of Trebević Nature Park, Mladen Samardžić, stated that 70 runners participated in the race, covering a 14-kilometer trail.
“The entire trail is set in a natural environment. The altitude difference is 800 meters, which is very demanding for the runners,” Samardžić said, praising those who came to walk this challenging trail as well.
He emphasized that the race aims to promote natural beauty and noted that the event is organized by the Tourist Organization of East Novo Sarajevo, the Trebević Paradise restaurant, the city of East Sarajevo, and the municipality of East Old Town, which helped with the demanding task of mapping out the first Trebević Trail.
The Mayor of East Sarajevo, Ljubiša Ćosić, said that organizing the Trebević Trail is an opportunity to promote tourism offerings and that those at the Nature Park are well aware that nature and people must coexist without harming the environment.
He highlighted that the first trail race on Trebević, held as part of the “Towards Summer” event, expands the city’s tourism and sports offerings.
“The Trebević Trail is one of the micro-activities organized by the Trebević Nature Park, founded by the city of East Sarajevo together with the municipalities of East Novo Sarajevo, East Old Town, and Pale. This shows the activism of the Trebević Nature Park,” Ćosić said.
He pointed out that soon, secondary legislation will be prepared to regulate many aspects of the park’s management and generate substantial revenue.
“This revenue will be used for activities related to environmental protection. Trebević is a site visited by many tourists, and its natural value cannot be compromised by these activities,” Ćosić said.
The head of East Old Town municipality, Bojo Gašanović, expressed satisfaction that after 10 years of active work on Trebević, they are jointly organizing this event for participants to enjoy.
“The fact that 70 runners are participating shows the seriousness of the event,” Gašanović said, hoping that next year there will be at least three times more participants.
The Trebević Trail race was organized as part of the “Towards Summer” event, which includes numerous cultural, artistic, and sports events and lasts until July 21.
The event began yesterday with the opening of a small football tournament dedicated to the “Petar Pandurević” unit and the fighters from the MZ Station Pale.
