Željka Cvijanović, the Serb member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), stated tonight before the UN Security Council that there is reluctance to discuss the fact that BiH is a “ticking bomb” when it comes to jihadists, even though this requires more attention than what the representatives of Republika Srpska are saying.
Cvijanović reminded of the statement by French President Emmanuel Macron, who called jihadists in BiH a “ticking bomb,” but emphasized that in this case, people do not want to talk about it.
She expressed surprise that no one reacted to what she had pointed out in her address, reminding that she had quoted the BiH Minister of Defense, Zukan Helez, and the Federal Minister of Internal Affairs, Rame Isak, who openly threaten violence and war.
“This corresponds to the fact that the Armed Forces are used against Republika Srpska, have ideas to form special camps, and to introduce reserve forces. Nothing can happen without prior consultations and approval at the Presidency,” said Cvijanović, adding that she regretted that Christian Schmidt did not comment on this.
She also expressed sadness that she heard representatives of certain countries mention only Republika Srpska and its president Milorad Dodik, but added that she listened carefully to the presentation by Russian Ambassador Vasily Nebenzia.
The Serb member of the BiH Presidency noted that she and Christian Schmidt appeared in a personal capacity at the session, which is not strange because he is not recognized as the High Representative.
“Many do not recognize him because he did not meet the requirements of Annex 10 of the Dayton Peace Agreement,” added Cvijanović.
She stated that she represents herself, not the Presidency of BiH as a whole, and that this will also be the case at the regular session of the UN Security Council when her colleague from this collective body of BiH participates because he will also present his views, not those of the Presidency as a whole.
“To present the stance of the Presidency, we must have consultations, consensus on the stance,” explained Cvijanović.
She thanked the head of the Permanent Mission of BiH to the UN, Zlatko Lagumdžija, for reading her letters, which means he read them, but did not forward them to where they were sent, unlike the letters sent by the Bosniak member of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović.
