BiH needs the EU and Brussels more than they need us, stated the Prime Minister of Republika Srpska, Radovan Višković.
“Although they do not mention a negotiation date, somewhere in speculations they say – you will receive a date after the elections for the European Parliament. This means that even they are not sure. It’s questionable whether those who made decisions today will still be in their positions after June,” Višković noted.
He emphasized that he knows some will not be there.
“I see nothing spectacular here. Compared to Ukraine and Moldova, and even some neighboring countries from the Western Balkans, BiH should have received that status earlier,” Višković said.
It’s a reminder that the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has given the green light for the commencement of negotiations with the EU.
“Of course, more progress is needed to join our union. But the country shows that it can meet the membership criteria and the aspirations of its citizens to be part of our family. Good news is coming now. That’s why we decided to recommend to the Council the opening of accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina. So, the message coming from Bosnia and Herzegovina is clear. Therefore, our message, as we just did, must be clear – the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina lies in our union. Thank you very much and long live Europe,” said von der Leyen.
