The book “Blagoje Jovović: Serb hero in the wolf’s den” was presented at a promotion event in Pale. The author, Marija Jovović, the daughter of Blagoje Jovović, shared that the book contains extensive information about her father, focusing on his personality, life in Argentina, and his activities before the assassination.
The book also delves into the history of Argentina and the political situation when Ante Pavelić and the Ustasha regime arrived in the country. Marija Jovović mentioned that she spent four years collecting information, letters, documents, and photographs, which are published in the book. She announced a second part that will primarily discuss the assassination of Pavelić.
Historian Lazar Škobo highlighted the historical significance of the book, emphasizing that it addresses an event that hasn’t been extensively discussed. Škobo expressed appreciation for Marija Jovović’s initiative to explore this topic and open up a broader discussion.
Blagoje Jovović, born in 1922, played a significant role during World War II and later emigrated to Italy. Working in various capacities, including the Italian Secret Intelligence Service, he learned about Pavelić’s presence in Argentina and decided to assassinate him. The book sheds light on Jovović’s life, his motivations, and the historical context of the event.
Blagoje Jovović visited Yugoslavia in 1999 after 55 years, confessing to Metropolitan Amfilohije in the Ostrog Monastery. He passed away a few months later in Rosario, Argentina.
The book promotion event was organized by the National Library in Pale.
