The exhibition Prostranstva (Expanses), by artist Ognjen Milošević, has opened at the Sreten Stojanović Gallery in Prijedor, presenting an interdisciplinary exploration of the relationship between humans, nature, space and memory.
The project examines how the images people encounter influence their attention, perceptions and understanding of themselves within the world around them.
It is based on the idea that human attention is neither neutral nor unchanging, but is continuously shaped by visual experiences.
Exploring the relationship between images and human attention
Milošević explained that his artistic research focuses on the ecology of attention and the influence of visual imagery on human perception.
“Thematically, the exhibition deals with the ecology of attention. I was interested in how images shape our attention and our overall perspective, and whether art can consciously create a collection of images that carry certain affirmative qualities,” Milošević said.
Through photography, cyanotype, video works and spatial installations, the artist explores the boundaries between reality and imagination.
His works also examine how physical spaces become places of personal experience, memory and identity formation.
Art as an invitation to slow down and reflect
Exhibition curator Isidora Živković emphasized that contemporary society is increasingly exposed to overwhelming amounts of information and visual content.
She explained that Milošević’s works encourage visitors to reconsider their relationship with the images surrounding them.
“The sources of information, the ways we inform ourselves and the visual content we encounter can sometimes be overwhelming. Through his works, the artist invites us to slow down and contemplate, while nature provides him with the opportunity to do so,” Živković stated.
The exhibition encourages visitors to experience art as a space for reflection and a more conscious engagement with their surroundings.
Republika Srpska supports young visual artists
Prostranstva was selected as one of the two highest-rated projects in a public competition organized by the Republika Srpska Ministry of Education and Culture.
The competition supports the production of complex visual arts projects by artists under the age of 35.
Tanja Đaković, Assistant Minister for Culture at the Ministry of Education and Culture of Republika Srpska, emphasized the importance of providing practical support to emerging artists.
“This exhibition proves that our support for young people is not merely declarative. When we recognize talent and a good idea, it is our responsibility to provide all the necessary conditions for that idea to be realized at the highest level,” Đaković said.
A year-long artistic project involving numerous participants
Boris Eremić, Director of the Sreten Stojanović Gallery in Prijedor, described the exhibition as the gallery’s first project of this kind.
He highlighted the cooperation with the Trebinje Cultural Center and the extensive work involved in preparing the exhibition.
“It is truly a pleasure that, together with the Trebinje Cultural Center, we have the opportunity to present everything that has been accomplished. This project has been underway for almost a year and has involved many people,” Eremić stated.
