The Ministry of Education and Culture of Republika Srpska has announced the results of this year’s competition for the development of cultural and creative industries, introducing a new funding category for educational video games for the first time. Among the successful applicants is young programmer and innovator Kenan Mahmutagić from Gradiška, whose project “Guardians of Heritage” has been approved for co-financing.
Mahmutagić, representing Monotik Group, is developing an educational video game designed to combine modern digital technologies with the preservation and promotion of historical and cultural heritage.
By introducing support for video game production, the Ministry has recognized the gaming industry as an important part of the creative economy and a contemporary platform for education and cultural promotion.
“Guardians of Heritage” combines gaming and education
The video game Guardians of Heritage (Čuvari nasljeđa) is envisioned as an interactive adventure developed using the Unity game engine.
Through engaging gameplay and logic-based challenges, the project aims to introduce younger generations to the importance of preserving historical and cultural heritage.
The game will combine entertainment with educational content, demonstrating how digital technologies can make cultural topics more accessible and engaging for young audiences.
Mahmutagić: Recognition for local developers and creative industries
Mahmutagić welcomed the Ministry’s decision to introduce a dedicated category for video games, describing it as an important opportunity for domestic developers.
“I am extremely pleased that the Ministry of Education and Culture has introduced a video game category, giving domestic creators a significant boost. For me personally and for Monotik, this is tremendous recognition from the expert commission,” Mahmutagić said.
He emphasized that the project aims to demonstrate the educational potential of modern technology.
“Our goal with Guardians of Heritage is to show how cutting-edge technologies can be used to educate new generations,” he explained.
Mahmutagić added that financial support would enable the development team to improve the production process and raise the project’s overall quality.
“The Ministry’s support allows us to take the production process to a significantly higher level and prove that competitive digital products can also be developed in Gradiška,” he stated.
Development and testing to begin following approval
Following the official completion of the competition procedure, the Monotik team will begin the active programming and design phase of the project.
The first working versions and test demonstrations of Guardians of Heritage are expected in the coming period.
The initiative represents an opportunity for Gradiška’s growing digital and creative sector, highlighting the potential of locally developed video games to contribute to education, technological innovation and the preservation of cultural heritage.
