Trišić Babić tells RTRS: No one will read Konaković’s letters, he cannot accept that Republika Srpska defended itself

Ana Trišić Babić, Acting Director of the Republika Srpska Office for International Cooperation, said that letters sent by BiH Foreign Minister Elmedin Konaković to U.S. officials were unlikely to receive any serious attention.

“I read that he sent letters again today. He has been sending them over the past several days as well. I do not think those letters even reach the people he addresses them to. They are primarily intended for domestic political consumption,” Trišić Babić told RTRS.

She recalled that Konaković and his party had an opportunity over the past four years to improve the lives of citizens, not only in BiH but throughout the region.

“He was expected to be an important corrective factor. However, he failed to deliver on any of those expectations. Konaković and his party have now suffered a convincing electoral defeat. I believe they have only one or two representatives in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH,” Trišić Babić said.

She argued that Konaković’s efforts to restore sanctions against Milorad Dodik and Republika Srpska extended beyond his letters to American officials.

“Since the day the sanctions were lifted, they have been working behind the scenes to undermine that decision. They simply cannot accept that Republika Srpska and its leadership have, in their eyes, defeated them,” she said.

“From our perspective, however, we merely defended ourselves against what we saw as a serious threat from forces seeking to abolish Republika Srpska,” Trišić Babić concluded.

According to reports published by media outlets in the Federation of BiH, Foreign Minister Elmedin Konaković sent 15 letters to U.S. officials requesting that American institutions investigate Republika Srpska’s activities in the United States, including the possibility of reimposing sanctions on Milorad Dodik.
