Nuždić: Republika Srpska has sent a message that it will not allow the humiliation of the Serb people

Viktor Nuždić, Director of the Republika Srpska Center for Research of War, War Crimes and the Search for Missing Persons, told RTRS that by adopting the Law on Amendments to the Criminal Code of Republika Srpska, which provides for up to three years in prison for glorifying the Independent State of Croatia and the so-called Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republika Srpska has sent a message that it will not allow the humiliation of the Serb people.

He said that the adoption of this law represents the concretization of previously adopted resolutions and declarations.

“We finally have solutions incorporated into the law. Republika Srpska will no longer allow the humiliation of Republika Srpska and the Serb people as a whole,” Nuždić stressed.

He said that the glorification of the Ustasha movement is becoming increasingly aggressive, turning into hysteria and entering the public space as something acceptable and good, while completely ignoring the fact that genocide against the Serb people was committed under the Ustasha ideology of the Independent State of Croatia.

He added that this is particularly visible in the surrounding region, which Republika Srpska cannot influence, but it can act within its own territory, which it has done by adopting regulations prohibiting the glorification of the Ustasha movement and Ustasha ideology.

Likewise, Nuždić recalled, Republika Srpska has adopted regulations prohibiting the public display and promotion of the flags and symbols of the so-called Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“This is not revenge or revolt, but a response to attempts at aggressively imposing a narrative on the Serb people. Republika Srpska must protect the Serb people as a suffering nation that survived genocide. An ideology that led so many people to their deaths cannot be allowed. Nor can wartime flags be allowed,” Nuždić emphasized, adding that Republika Srpska must not permit revisionism, because later it will be difficult to fight against narratives being imposed on the Serb people.

As a reminder, the National Assembly of Republika Srpska yesterday adopted, under urgent procedure, the Law on Amendments to the Criminal Code of Republika Srpska, which предусматривает up to three years in prison for glorifying the Independent State of Croatia and the so-called Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The amendments to this Law stipulate that anyone who, through the press, radio, television, a computer system, social media or in any other way, in a public place or at a public gathering, promotes, glorifies, spreads, supports or encourages positive evaluation or acceptance of the Ustasha movement or the Ustasha ideology of the Independent State of Croatia, as well as the public display and promotion of the flags and symbols of the so-called Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, shall be punished by up to three years in prison.

Also adopted under urgent procedure was the Law on Cemeteries and Funeral Activities of Republika Srpska, which provides for monetary fines for those responsible for symbols in cemeteries that glorify and promote the ideology of the Independent State of Croatia, as well as Ustasha, Nazi and fascist ideology.

Graves, tombs, tombstones, memorials or facilities within cemeteries may not contain symbols and inscriptions that offend the religious, moral and national feelings of the Serb people and all other citizens.
