Minić: Republika Srpska will continue strengthening its institutions; compromise is the only path for Bosnia and Herzegovina

Prime Minister of Republika Srpska Savo Minić stated that the institutions of Republika Srpska have shown that they have outgrown the role of the high representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, who, as he said, believed that by bringing down Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik he would achieve his goal.

Minić assessed that those who had tried to steer political processes through the high representative have now realized that not only did they fail, but that they are, as he put it, “in a tunnel with no light in sight.”

He said that normal life in Bosnia and Herzegovina will begin only when compromise becomes the way Republika Srpska and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, that is, Serbs, Bosniaks and Croats, reach agreements.

“There can be no stable agreement as long as there is a tutor acting in the interest of one people and to the detriment of another,” Minić said on Telering.

Minić added that only with time will it become clear how much damage and harm the OHR, in his view, has inflicted on both present and future generations of people living in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On Željka Cvijanović’s veto and the draft law banning the display of wartime flags and insignia

The National Assembly of Republika Srpska adopted a decision supporting the veto of the Serb member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency, Željka Cvijanović, regarding the appointment of members of the Commission to Preserve National Monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Prime Minister Savo Minić said that by doing so the Serb people had made their position clear, assessing that what happened in the Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency amounted to “banditry.”

Minić said that Republika Srpska must continue strengthening its institutions, raising the living standard of citizens and using all legal mechanisms that do not harm Republika Srpska.

Speaking about the draft law concerning the ban on displaying wartime flags and insignia, Minić recalled that the law has not yet been adopted, but that it concerns all wartime symbols that offend any people.

As an example, he said that he himself would not support driving through Zenica with Republika Srpska flags, because, as he said, that too would represent a classic provocation.

He added that there is nothing controversial about historical symbols being displayed in places where they are officially prescribed, but that the law concerns their misuse for the purpose of provoking ethnic tensions.

Minić assessed that this is a civilizational law that will be applied equally to all insignia that may offend others.
