Republika Srpska is eternal, and the Serb people will never surrender the freedom they secured alongside the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS), said Slobodan Župljanin, president of the Organization of VRS Officers.
“Former soldiers and officers of the Army of Republika Srpska are the strongest guarantee of the survival and development of Republika Srpska in peace and stability,” Župljanin told Srna ahead of the upcoming observance of Vidovdan, the patron saint day of the Army of Republika Srpska.
Župljanin emphasized that the best sons of the Serb people gave their lives under the Vidovdan covenant and that it is important to remember them every Vidovdan and reaffirm that their sacrifice was not and will never be in vain.
“They will forever remain heroes of the Serb people,” Župljanin said.
Vidovdan, the patron saint day of the Army of Republika Srpska and the Third Infantry (Republika Srpska) Regiment of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, will be commemorated on June 28 at the Miloševac Monastery near Prijedor.
The Army of Republika Srpska was established on May 12, 1992, and by the end of the war had approximately 210,000 members.
According to data from the Republika Srpska Centre for Research of War, War Crimes and Missing Persons, nearly 24,000 soldiers were killed.
After 14 years of existence, the Army of Republika Srpska was incorporated into the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where its military heritage and identity are preserved by the Third Infantry (Republika Srpska) Regiment.
