Exhibition on Banja Luka during the Second World War opened at the Faculty of Philosophy

The exhibition “Banja Luka 1941–1945: Places of Suffering and Resistance,” authored by Dr. Vladan Vukliš, was officially opened at the exhibition space of the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Banja Luka.

The exhibition offers a comprehensive overview of Banja Luka during the World War II, with particular emphasis on sites of suffering as well as locations of resistance. Through documentary and visual material, it presents human stories and the city’s history through space, including locations that no longer exist today.

A special value of the exhibition lies in the use of digital codes linking numerous locations with a coordinate system, as well as the mapping of more than 60 sites on a historical map from 1942. This segment represents the beginning of a broader project aimed at systematically mapping Banja Luka during the Second World War.

The exhibition was prepared using documentary, photographic, and archival materials from multiple institutions, including the Archives of Republika Srpska, Museum of Republika Srpska, Military Archive of Serbia, Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Archives of Yugoslavia, Museum of Yugoslavia, Museum of Vojvodina, the Croatian State Archives, the National Archives and Records Administration in Washington, the Museum of Kozara, as well as materials from private collections.

In addition to the author, the opening ceremony featured addresses by Prof. Dr. Kristina Pantelić Babić, Vice Rector for International and Inter-University Cooperation, and Prof. Dr. Boško Branković of the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Banja Luka.
