European futsal championship for high school students opens in Banja Luka; Republika Srpska teams secure two wins on opening day

The European High School Futsal Championship officially opened in Banja Luka, gathering around 250 competitors from 11 countries.

On the opening day of the tournament, both Republika Srpska teams recorded convincing victories.

Republika Srpska 1 defeated Montenegro 3-0, while Republika Srpska 2 secured a 6-0 win over Moldova.

The championship will run until May 16, with matches being played at the Borik Sports Hall, Centar Sports Hall, and the Sveti Sava Primary School sports facility in Banja Luka.

The official opening ceremony was held at Petar Kočić Park, and the championship was formally opened by Republika Srpska Minister of Family, Youth and Sports, Irena Ignjatović.

“We have welcomed teams from Bulgaria, Belgium, Slovenia, Slovakia, Serbia, the Czech Republic and other countries. We will be good hosts to all participants. The Ministry allocated 200,000 KM for the organization of this event. Republika Srpska supports the development of school sports and the promotion of our athletes on the international stage,” Ignjatović said.

Željko Tanasković, representative of the International School Sport Federation, stated that events like this are important for the further development of school sports.
